How to Organize the simple things

Oct 26, 2010 12:06 AM

Being organized and efficient is not a habit or a sporadic event. Its a way of life. People who are organized, which leads to efficiency have all aspects of their life in order. Everything from a desk, to the kitchen, to the linen closet right down to a purse or car trunk.

Simplicity helps with efficiency. Too much clutter, whether it be in your mind or on a table, leads to confusion and the inability to make sense of what you need to organize.

Grouping

Keeping "like things" together is a very easy way to start the process. Its as easy as putting a paperclip on a group of papers. Imagine that pile on your desk. If you were to go through that pile and sort the similar pieces of paper into piles it would be more manageable. All the cable bills - clip... all the school forms - clip ... all the junk mail - Recycle!!

Calendars

If you are a parent and you have more paperwork from school, birthday parties, book sales, etc than you care to think about, here's a great tip.Instead of keeping all those papers in a pile, attach them to the calendar with a large paperclip or a bulldog clip. If its due next month, attach it to the next page of the calendar. Staple birthday invitations to the bottom of the calendar and highlight the date on the invite as well as mark it on the calendar.

Here's another great calendar tip for families with lots on the go. Color code your calendar. Give each person in your family as color... unless you're the Duggars and have 19 kids!

Let's give you the color RED. When you glance at the calendar and see something in RED on the 19th, you know that YOU have something important that day. You can go a step further with large square calendars and divide the square into AM, Afternoon & PM then when you walk past the calendar you see that YOU have something in the AM on the 19th... IN RED

Everything Has A Place

Keys - have a hook to hang them on. Then there's no question when someone needs the car

Purse - hang it in the same place everytime

Cell Phone - get in the habit of charging it every night so you know where it is every morning

Work papers - work at the same place every time you bring work home. That way you are not hunting for that notebook or piece of paper because you were laying on the couch working and its now under the couch.

Having routine keeps everyone at peace. The less chaos you accidently create, the more efficient you will be.

Efficiency = The ratio of useful work to energy expended
